I teach health leadership at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University of Western Australia. I believe it is important to enable students to build their leadership skills regardless of their chosen discipline or future career pathways. I always endeavor to make my teaching relevant to my students and use real-life examples from my own professional career and my colleagues. I also feel it is essential to ‘lead by example’ and practice responsible and ethical leadership within my own research projects and research team. I also have a strong focus on formal and informal mentoring and am always seeking professional development opportunities for myself and members of the social determinants research group I lead.
