What is the difference between Living In Place and “aging in place”?

Many people wonder. I break it down for you in this video.

Aging in place is a term that brings awareness and planning to baby boomers and beyond. According to AgingInPlace.org, 9 out of 10 people want to age at home. To help people make that happen, the organization focuses on their finances; personal services such as therapists, aid, etc.; home modifications; mobility; legal needs; patient care; technology; taking care of a parent; and maintaining lifestyle.

Living In Place focuses on the actual structure of the home by educating and creating awareness of different types of modifications that can be incorporated throughout a home, along with approved products and manufacturers that meet the CLIPP requirements. Our focus is to help make homes safer, accessible and more comfortable no matter what the age of a person is by using proper planning, design and construction techniques.

As an interior designer, I know first-hand how resistant people can be to make certain selections because they are afraid it means they are “old”. My mom did not want a grab bar in her shower because she thought they were ugly. In a future post, I will show you how far they have come and what a beautiful statement they can make in a bathroom.

Did you know that less than 3% of the homes within the United States have the one or more of the following:

  • A zero-step entry into the home
  • Wider hallways (> than 36”)
  • 32-36” wide interior doorways
